I've had my Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen for almost 2 years and today it started showing a H72 error: "The power to this thermostat is off."
When I do Tech Info > Power it says Battery 3.930V, Vusb 0.01V and Vin 0.00V, but Iin 200mA (o)
I've got mine in the walln plate powered by a USB adapter, and when I remove it from the wall and connect it directly to a USB charger (that I verified first), the Power info does not change. I get a green blinking light when connected to the external charger, but can't connect to the heat link...
I've tried resetting it and nothing changed.
Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue. My 2nd Gen nest (likely 6-7 years old) worked nearly flawlessly for years. Suddenly in the past few months, it has complained there was no power to the thermostat after troubleshooting. I checked the Voltage input and it was in within spec. So it is getting power but wouldn't stay on. So I charged it on a USB charger that helped for a few days before crashing to the point it would not charge at all. So I replaced the battery. It now is unable to restart, power up or function in any manner. I did learn you can plug it in via USB to your computer and if the computer "mounts" the device (i.e., detects it) it seems to reset the device. I'm still unable to restore any function. It's sad, but when I bought the Nest product it was an independent company with incredible support (like a real human answered the phone and helped me install) that has been ruined by Google taking over.

I have the same problem. The message I am getting is E24. No power detected. This follow low battery message. I charged for two hours with no results . Now no heat. Power is on to the unit. 26 degrees outside. Get a new one tomorrow?

I have the same issue, for me what caused it is the heat link dying and not relaying power to the thermostat anymore. Check if the heat link light is on, and if you get error 72 on your thermostat. Beyond that I cannot help as I have been waiting for any response from Google for over a month.

Thanks. Yep, zero from google. My nest hasn't connected to wifi for months after errors. It will no longer function if not connected directly to a computer via Mini USB. $250 paper wait.

Hi @wolverine222 and @GoogleruindNest , I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your thermostat and would be happy to try and assist. Thank you for the information provided and tests done on your devices.
Just to check make sure to try different USB cables and adapters if available to charge the display separately before placing it back on the base. Make sure to charge them for about 90 minutes before placing it back.
Also check to see what LED you have on the Heat Link. Even if the thermostat is not wired to the Heat Link it should still have an LED and you should be able to activate the heating using the manual mode, pressing the button on it. This is so you can activate the heating if needed, even without the display.
I'd like to investigate this further please fill out this form so we can gather your details securely, and let us know here once you've done it https://bit.ly/3oVDg4g . Make sure to include the display serial starting with 09A, the email associated with your Nest account and your full post address.

Same-ish problem,
Since an update on November 2nd my less than one year old gen 3 Nest Learning Thermostat has now stopped working three times now due to a battery /charging issue. The first two times it actually charged on my desk using its USB port. It will no longer charge at all.
When connected to its base and I check its "Power" readouts though its settings menu it shows:
Battery - 3.852 V
Vin - 32.45 V
Vout - 32.45 V
lin - 200 mA(c)
All appear to be expected readouts.
Prior to Nov 2nd it worked flawlessly.

After Nest Learning Thermostat replaced because could not connect to wifi within 8 months of use by Google Nest, the new Nest Learning Thermostat display will not recharge after 7 months. Google Nest refuses to replace stating the new one sent to me is under the original warranty so past a year. I replaced Nest with a non-wifi 7 day programable. Last one of these I had was still working after 27 years in the house I sold in 2018. I doubt the new ones or 3 year old ones are going to last as long, yet it will be a lot better than spending $199 or more for a Nest that malfunctions and is no useable after 7-8 months. The product is no longer an item with positive consumer reviews

"After Nest Learning Thermostat replaced because could not connect to wifi within 8 months of use by Google Nest, the new Nest Learning Thermostat display will not recharge after 7 months." This is my exact same story. Trying to find results now.

Hi Chi_Guy,
I'm sorry to hear about the same issues that you're having with your replacement Nest thermostat. It appears that it won't hold the charge, but I'm happy to help.
Going over these steps here might help:
Looking forward for your response.
Thanks,
Mark

@Markjosephp Thanks. I went through each of those steps with tech support last week. None helped. Where we left it was: "please disconnect the Nest Thermostat from your home WiFi and monitor the Nest Thermostat for 24 hours and check if the battery still drains"
Unfortunately, after booting up the charge doesn't last long enough to allow me to navigate to the network menu before it does dead again. It stays powered for about 8 seconds after it boots up then dies. It does this about 3 times a day (that I can catch).

Very similar issues here also. After charged, it lasts only 1 or 2 days. It's been 5~6 months without connecting to Wifi.

I Just started having these problems and I am concerned after reading a lot of the posts. I am currently "charging via usb cable" but I've had this nest for 6 years now, it was already installed when I bought the house and has worked flawlessly the whole time. I don't see any replies from google tech's except to tell someone to fill out the link and talk separately.

After using the provided link a replacement thermostat was shipped and received
just a few days after completing the questionnaire in the link.

Any Idea what the problem was, Because My nest was suddenly a dead battery and now, once charged I try looking at settings and It says "Please place unit on its base."

Which link are you referring to? I am having the exact same problem.

Don't know but have read may be due to a bad battery but also noticed mine acted up shortly after a firmware upgrade.
12-20-2021 05:35 AM
My last firmware, according to Nest, was in September, and I recall it froze. There was a message telling me to ensure the Nest was attached to its base. I pulled it off, pushed it back on and it started up again. Now, whenever I touch it to change temps or switch modes, It tells me to attach it to its base. I charged it for 90 minutes through USB cable and its working for now. If it dies again, Ill buy a new one. This one is second gen.

I just reset my 3rd gen Nest to factory defaults, disabled Wi-Fi and turned it to essentially a dumb thermostat just to I can keep my furnace running on a 15 degree day. If I knew google was going to buy Nest I would not have bought this thermostat.

I have the same problem With battery. ANY SOLUTION??
07-20-2022 07:15 PM
I have the same problem with battery . Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation has now stopped working now due to low battery charging issue. WIFI not conected due to low battery charge.I charged it several times for 2 hours through USB cable and it's not working.

This is not right - for a smart thermostat it is causing a lot if problems. I am sure you are experiencing a heat wave just like me and the rest of the country. My Nest shut down yesterday and it was 96 degrees. I had to charge it for over 3 hours and tge temp in my house rose to 84. It took an hour for my ac to cool off the house once the thermostat was charged. With all these shutdowns it is causing my ac to work harder and my electric bill to increase. It is costing me more money while it is evident thru all the comaints i see on this thermostat that Google has defective products out there there and they are doing nothing to help the consumer remedy the problem
