Yesterday my electrician attempted to install and set up the new Nest Learning Thermostat only to have a low battery warning. I let it heat the house for 2 hours then tried to charge it via USB. There is a blinking green light on at all times. I do not know if the USB charge even worked, or how to check.
For now we reinstalled the old thermostat and are awaiting the nest power adapter before attempting to do this again.
Are the batteries in need of recharging so quickly? Do they really need a c wire for power? How do I check my battery level?

How many wires are connected to the Nest now? Take a pic and post it.
And are there any spare wires you can use for C wire in the thermostat cable?
You really do need a C wire for the Nest to operate properly.
The electrician should have pulled a new cable if there are no spare wires to use for C
What kind of system do you have? Heat and AC or just heat?

I am waiting for my electrician to come back for a 2nd attempt. I purchased the power connector as a back up option in case the battery did not fully charge or does not receive power. Once the electrician returns I will follow up here. I was able to use it for 2 hours & loved it! Hopefully it works on the 2nd attempt

My electrician is coming tomorrow for another attempt at installing. If the nest does not have power, or does not receive power once hooked up, I will return the device. This malfunction occurred during freezing temperatures and was extremely problematic

A HVAC technician would be better than an electrician. The HVAC tech will know how and where to connect the C wire inside the furnace and also test the system is working correctly.
Electricians are for house wiring problems and normally do not have experience with HVAC control wiring.

Thank you for your advice & help everyone. We successfully installed the thermostat on Friday & a new power terminal on the furnace so the system works now. The nest is now continuously powered
