Nest Learning thermostat always offline

Hello Google community!
I have read through some posts on here and of course I have read all of the troubleshooting advice Google had to offer but we are still running into the same issue. Nest Thermostat Offline. Our router is upstairs in the next bedroom to the thermostat and the router is new, we just upgraded it within the last few weeks. The Nest Learning thermostat downstairs (we have 2 units thus needing 2 thermostats) works just fine and is further away from the router. I use the Nest app on my iPhone and the Google doorbell, downstairs Nest thermostat never have connectivity issues so I know the Wi-Fi is good. The thermostat said it was offline a few minutes ago and when I pushed for it to search for Wi-Fi, it said there were no networks found. Hmmm . . . Any advice? Or is it time to send back?

Hi NinaR,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with connecting your Nest Thermostat to your Wifi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • Is your Nest Thermostat working stand alone?
  • Have you tried rebooting both the thermostat and the router?
  • Are you getting any messages on the thermostat when it fails detecting any network?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward! Help me! Lol

yes the thermostat works stand alone. It won’t stay on the Wi-Fi and now it doesn’t connect to my Nest app. I have rebooted the thermostat (many times), I have rebooted the Wi-Fi and I have factory reset a few times. The thermostat will say it’s offline, that’s all it ever says. I have since taken it off the Wi-Fi (it never stayed on the Wi-Fi but maybe for a minute anyway) and the app can’t connect to the thermostat. It is now just a plain ol thermostat 😕

Hi NinaR,

Thanks for the response. Could you share how your Nest Thermostat is wired? Also, please check the power reading of your Nest Thermostat by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

When I go to Power, can you tell me what I am looking for? The wires connected are Y1, G, O/B, C, Rh

Hey Edward! For whatever reason, my thermostat is online and has been added in my Nest app. The only thing I did differently was delete my Nest app/add the Nest app and update my iPhone software. I’m not sure if that was the solution but it’s been working since last night and hasn’t been offline.
