Nest Sensor note reconnecting to thermostat

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat at Software level 6.2-27 and Nest temperature sensor. They were working just fine until about 6 months ago. The position of the sensor or the thermostat changed at the time of the outage. There were not power issues or storms at the time.

I am using IOS Nest App, which is at current level. I have tried:

  1. Restart the thermostat. Go to settings > reset > restart.
  2. Remove the sensor battery for at least 30 seconds, then reinsert it.
  3. Ensure you are using the correct email account on your Google Home app or Nest app.
  4. Also I have left the battery out for 8 weeks
  5. Also I have replaced the battery twice.
  6. I have tried to connect with the sensor in the same room (about 4 feet away)
  7. I have removed and reinstalled the sensor many many times in the app.
  8. I continually end up with message "Something went wrong. The app had trouble connecting to the Nest service. Try again.

I have followed many of the suggestions in this community and other results from google searches.

I am at a loss as what to do next! Help please.

Hello terryrmiller,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to know that your Nest Sensor is not reconnecting with the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen). Don’t worry; it's a pleasure to be able to assist you.

I’m grateful for your time and effort in completing these troubleshooting steps described in the post, so let’s explore more steps.

  • Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is on.
  • Reboot your cellphone.
  • Move the sensor closer to the thermostat. Even just a foot (30 cm) can make a difference.
  • Ensure the thermostat's battery level is adequate. If the battery reads below 3.65 volts during sensor installation, the thermostat will not communicate with the Nest Sensor. To check this information, go to Settings, then Technical Information, and select Power. If you’re experiencing this situation, I recommend charging up the thermostat. For your reference, for which steps follow, visit this article: Nest thermostat USB port.

Keep me posted to know if these steps were helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel
