Nest Thermometer won't connect to app.

Hi! I have looked and looked and read many posts on NEST/app connection issues, but still have not found a straight answer. So I'll try posting myself and maybe someone can help.

I have an old/early Nest Thermometer installed in my old house (UK).  Had it for years and it worked brilliantly. Now I've had a new boiler installed and nothing works right now.  I can't set up a schedule and now every night the Nest shuts the boiler down at midnight and I have to go and manually reset the Nest to 20c when I wake up. I'm back to the stone age!  My old schedule that I had no longer exists. The Eco report I used to get in the email says there is no data.

The Nest app says the house is connected and I have an account. The dial says it's on the right house and is connected properly and the dial works manually. The wifi is working fine. I tried removing and reinstalling the app on my Iphone, so as far as I can see the software on everything is up to date and works.

So I'm told by the device that I should put in a QR code from the back of the dial, but my older version doesn't have that. It also says I can put in a pass code but (again) my older version doesn't do that. When I turn it to App, there is no Passcode option at all. So I don't have a passcode or a QR code to work with.

I can't set up Google Home app (and so avoid the NEST app which doesn't seem to have a schedular on it any more) without a QR code or passcode.

Has anyone come up with a work-around for connecting older NEST thermometers to phone apps? I don't want to have to buy a new one just to get the schedular!

Thank you for your help!

the question I’m getting is away or stay for controlling mine thermostat from my home. I am home but I still cannot get my app on my phone to do the job. Why is that? Why do I have to go to settings when it was already set up.

Thanks for reaching out to us here @TheRumLot . I am sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your thermostat control from the app.

Could you provide me with more details on what exactly is not working with the control from the Nest app? Are you not able to change the temperature, settings or what's going on more precisely?

Also, is this a new installation or has it been installed for some time and working before this behaviour occurred?

Thanks for reaching out to us here @TheRumLot . I'm sorry to hear you're facing difficulties with your thermostat and I would be happy to try and assist.

From the sound of it, since you mentioned you have no QR code on the back of the display, you may have a 2nd Generation Google Nest thermostat.

While it does not have a QR code on the back, you should be able on the display to go to Settings> Nest app and get a code from there, unless it's already added to an account. In that case it will say it's already linked to an account.

You can't add the thermostat to the Google Home app directly. You can only add it to the Nest app and the schedule option as well as all other features are still available in the Nest app.

Do you still have the thermostat on an account?
