Nest Thermostat Backing Plastic

Where can I order a replacement backing for the nest? The one of the plastic tabs that hold the nest on the wall plate broke off.

I am curious, how many times have you taken the display off the wall that would lead to that tab breaking off?

I wouldn’t be able to speak to that specifically as my tenants were occupying the house when the Nest broke.  I would guess the reality is it would only take one removal to break the tiny piece of plastic.  Seems like a common problem as 3rd parties (EBay) are aware of the issue.

Do you happen to know if Nest/Google offer a replacement? I would prefer to get one from Google/Nest before going to EBay to get the replacements.

It is rare, but sometimes they do break when somebody removes the display without pulling it straight out forward. When people like peel it off like from the top and leave the bottom in it and pull it out, they will break those tabs. If you read the instruction manual, it tells you when removing the display, put your hand on the top at the bottom, and then Paul gently straight forward towards you. Do not pull it out in an angle. As for getting a replacement base I know that they do not sell those parts separately. This is why people get defective or break down stolen nest thermostats, and break them down and sell the parts.

Hi Pariniel,

Thanks for posting here in Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I'd like to take a look at this for you.

A few questions: Is the product new, or has it been installed or working for some time? And did you accidentally damage the device by dropping it, removing the cover, or disassembling it for any reason?

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks for the help here, @CoolingWizard.

Best,

Zoe

Did you provide a link for a replacement part?

Hello folks,

@Pariniel, It's me again. I want to check if you were able to speak with your tenants already about the Nest Learning Thermostat situation. I'll look forward to your response, and don't hesitate to reach back if you do.

Regards,

Zoe

You want me to speak to the tenants about the cheap nest part that has no replacement parts for sale and that Google/Nest representatives cannot find a way to ship a $0.05 replacement part? I’m good. Does not seem worthy of a conversation. I proceeded with buying a replacement part on eBay for $50 due to the lack of customer support.

Cheers!
