Nest Thermostat Charging Cable

My thermostat went offline and I think I need to charge it. I think I have a 3rd generation Nest learning thermostat. What kind of cord would I need to charge it? I came across one on Amazon for a 2nd generation, would that work?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your Nest Learning Thermostat 3 Generation. I understand how frustrating this situation can be. But don't worry, I can help.

@EDT0 In your case you can use the same Micro-USB post for a 2nd Generation and for a 3rd Generation, you can this steps to charge the Nest Learning Thermostat:

  1. Pull off the thermostat display.
  2. Plug it into a USB port on your computer or a wall charger like the one you use to charge your phone.
  3. A blinking light on the front of your thermostat confirms that it’s charging. The color of the light will depend on the battery level of the thermostat when you charge it. Usually, your thermostat will take about half an hour to recharge. But if the battery is fully drained, it can take as long as 2 hours to recharge.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

@Ddmrod79  If you are having this situation with the Nest Learning thermostat not holding the charge, don't worry I can help, I just need to ask:

  • Do you see any error codes displayed on the thermostat, specifically about the "C wire" or power?

Please let me know if you have more questions. I'll be happy to help.

Best regards,

Jenny

What charging cable do I get - the one for my phone is not the correct one.

Hi sandiran,

Thanks for posting. I understand that you are looking for the correct charging cable for your Nest Thermostat. I'm here to help. Here you have the options that you can use depending on the type of Nest Thermostat that you have.

Nest thermostat USB compatibility:

Micro-USB port

  • Nest Thermostat E
  • 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat
  • 2nd gen Nest Learning Thermostat

Mini-USB port

  • 1st gen Nest Learning Thermostat

No USB port

  • Nest Thermostat
If you get a low battery message on your thermostat, pull off the display from its base and replace the AAA alkaline batteries.

Let me know if you have more questions, I'll be happy to help.

Best regards,

Jenny
