Nest Thermostat OFF Line and NOT Home

Ronboy
Community Member
  • We have a second (get-away) home and our Nest Thermostat has gone OFF LINE within about 12 hours after leaving to return to our primary home.  We discovered this when we realized that we had forgotten to put the stat in Hold Mode at a low temperature setting.  We have several WIFI switches on the same network and they are working fine.   Can any one give me some things to try from my remote location in order to get the Nest back ON-LINE?  If I can not find a way, I will have to make a special trip back to the remote property to manually reset things and regain remote control.  Thanks for any ideas that might help.

Hello Ronboy,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't access your Nest thermostat because it has been offline. I'd love to help.

Router settings issues and environmental issues (too far from the router, interference, etc.) are some of the possible causes for Nest thermostats being disconnected from the network. An option to reconnect it remotely is not an option yet, so you will need to be with your thermostat and restart it. Also, rebooting the router for at least 2 minutes would help.

Have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi there,

Checking back in — how's it going? Still need our help?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Ronboy,

I just want to check if you have seen my response posted above. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for your follow-up.  My problem did get resolved, at least for now.  Actually, the Nest eventually reconnected to the Network on its own.  I had read somewhere on the website that supposedly it would keep trying but after a few days I had given up on that.  So one morning I checked in on it and I was connected and I was able to turn the temperature down.  Thank goodness since, at the current cost of oil heat, I was about to make an 8-hour-round trip to lower the temperature setting.

Thanks again,

Ron
