Nest Thermostat Won’t Stay Connected

SandiDuprey
Community Member

Installed about a month ago.
Our thermostat repeatedly has gone offline. We have followed the steps to reconnect multiple times and it will only stay connected for one day and then goes offline again.
The worst part of this is that in the middle of the night, the heat comes on and is reaching 70 degrees. I get up to turn it off and it just turns back on again.
The thermostat was supposed to save me money, but it’s not working as planned.

Hi SandiDuprey,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about what's happening.

Few details to get a better grip of what's going on:

  • Which Nest Thermostat are you using?
  • Being online is one of the features of your thermostat. You'd still be able to set a temperature and change it without even connecting it to the WiFi. Were you able to change it from the thermostat itself?
  • Have you tried checking if there's a common (C) wire connected to your thermostat?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hey  SandiDuprey,

I just wanted to follow up and see if anyone is still in need of help? Please let me know, as I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hello, and sorry for my delay... thank you for getting back to me.

We have the basic, Nest Thermostat... and yes, we are able to make changes to the thermostat itself and we do have a c wire.

So, while it's irritating that the device goes offline every day, the most irritating part is that the heat comes on several times during the night.  I get up and turn it back down, only to be woken up later with it back on and this has happened every night for the last couple of weeks.  When we get it back online, we have gone through the steps multiple times to keep the temp low at night and set on comfort during the day and it seems to be backwards... during the day, I am cold, so have to manually turn it up and at night, it comes on, set to 70 degrees.

We got this through our power company about 2 months ago and so far, it's not working according to plan.  Last night before bed, we manually turned the thing completely off.

I very much appreciate you checking back in!

Thank you!

Hey SandiDuprey,

Thank you for the update.

Let's try to turn off the Eco settings on your Nest Thermostat and observe the behavior for the next couple of days. Also, check the temperature schedule and look for the changes that you didn't set.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan
