Nest Thermostat and Temperature Sensor

Hi all. I've just been given a T5000SF Temp Sensor (my son couldn't connect it to his 1st gen Nest). I have the 3rd gen "Learning" thermostat (Model "Display-3.7") running the latest firmware (5.9.5-2), hence him giving me the sensor. 

I have scanned the included barcode and tried manual to install the sensor in the Nest app and all I get is a message about the thermostat need to upgrade to the latest update??

I've seen the 3rd gen being sold as a package with the T5000SF, in the UK, so I assume it's compatible......anyone?

The temperature sensor is only officially available in the US and Canada as they are not designed to work with the EU thermostat models. The sensor will only pair with a thermostat from the US or Canada.
