Nest Thermostat can’t get 7-digit key

Eng

My Nest app showed it was offline and I tried signing out and signing back in. I tried deleting and downloading the app again. Nothing worked, so I reset the settings on the nest thermostat and now it’s asking for a 7-digit key, which I cannot get. Any help, please? I’ve read several posts that others had the same issue. How did you fix this? There’s no way to bypass the 7-digit key.

Hey Eng,

Sorry for the delay but thanks for posting.

In order to get an entry key from your thermostat, please follow the steps below:

  1. Press your thermostat’s ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Turn the ring to Nest app and press the ring to select it.
  4. Select Get Entry Key to retrieve a unique entry key.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Melba

I'm having the same problem.  States "continue set up in home app" after trying to restart because that was your recommendation when it goes "offline."  It now asks for a key code.  This was installed by my handyman (I'm a senior). I can't find how to take the cover off to find this code.  I'm cold!

I had to restart the whole system as I was not able to get the 7-digit access key. It’s a pain to reset it, but I was left with no other option. Hope you’re able to get some heat soon

UPDATE:  Called Handy man who came over and started thermostat.  This is a great thermostat when it works but horrid when it doesn't!

This doesn’t help unless you’re setting it up anew. My app wasn’t connecting, yet the Nest module was connected and I tried every other possible way. This is a faulty process that you posted. You should really look into this as many others have the same issue.

No, I had to rest the entire system and then I could get the 7-digit code
