Nest Thermostat can’t reconnect or find any wifi

warmnestbroke

My third generation Nest just failed after a year of use. I have gone through network reset, total reset and even unplugging it for several minutes. It fails to find any wifi of which there are two within 3m range. This was working fine until today.

Can I get a replacement sent?

1. Check the Wi-Fi Network Compatibility:

Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is using the 2.4 GHz frequency band, as Nest thermostats only support 2.4 GHz networks (unless there has been an update for the new models).

If you have dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), ensure the 2.4 GHz network is not congested or having issues.

2. Verify the Router Settings:

Check your router settings to ensure it's not blocking new devices from connecting. Make sure that "AP Isolation" (if enabled) is turned off, as it can prevent devices from communicating with each other.

If your router has an option for a "Guest Network," try connecting your Nest to that network.

3. Update Your Router’s Firmware:

Ensure that your router's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, older firmware versions can cause connectivity issues with new devices.

4. Forget Network on Nest Thermostat:

If the Nest is stuck on a previous Wi-Fi network, go to the Nest app and "Forget" the network. Then try reconnecting it manually.

5. Try a Different Wi-Fi Network:

If possible, try connecting your Nest thermostat to a different Wi-Fi network (like a mobile hotspot) to rule out any issues with the current router.

6. Check for Interference:

Devices such as microwaves, baby monitors, or cordless phones can cause interference on the 2.4 GHz frequency. Try turning off or moving other electronic devices that may be causing interference.

7. Check Nest for Physical Issues:

Ensure there are no physical issues with the Nest itself. Sometimes, a faulty wire or a connection issue can prevent the thermostat from connecting to the Wi-Fi network. If possible, remove and reattach the Nest thermostat to ensure it's correctly seated.

8. Factory Reset:

If all else fails, you can try a factory reset by pressing and holding the thermostat's dial for about 20 seconds until it restarts and reverts to factory settings. This will clear any settings, and you’ll need to set up the Wi-Fi again.

If none of these solutions work, it may be a hardware issue with the thermostat. In that case, contacting Google Nest support for further assistance or a potential replacement may be necessary.

Hi @warmnestbroke,

Thanks for reaching out to the community, @AdilAnsari2415 thank you for your willingness to help. I am sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat can’t reconnect or find any WiFi, but no need to worry; help is here. I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?

  • Can your other devices find your Wi-Fi network name?

  • Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Derick
