Nest Thermostat cooling function not working

I have had a thermostat in the past and four wires came out of the wall : W, G, C, R

Per Nest thermostat instruction I connected W --> W1, G--> G, C-->C and R -->RH

I had my old thermostat system working for both Heat and Cooling functions. But with these recommended Nest settings, I only have "heat" and "fan" functions.

The system with only "heat" and "fan" doesn't work as intended. It is warm weather, I don't want the heater to get engaged at all but sometimes it gets turned on.

@skargar

Do you have a picture of the original thermostat's wiring that you can post here?

None of your wires are used to control the cooling function.

This is from all angles for the old thermostat connection before I remove it from the wall. With my older thermostat, I had both cooling and heating functions with these connections. But with Nest thermostat, I only have heating and fan. How can I change the configuration to get both heating and cooling?

@skargar

You have me on why cooling worked with your original thermostat.

The way it is wired is for heat only.

Hi @Patrick_Caezza,

We had a heating system first, and then we added AC to it.
Before I replace the old thermostat to Nest, we had both cooling and heating functions with these wirings. I don't know how it worked before, but for sure it was working with no issue, and we had both heating and cooling modes. After we switched to Nest thermostat we lost the cooling 😞

I have no idea how it allowed cooling but no Nest Thermostat will allow it without the correct wires which your thermostat doesn't have.
