Nest Thermostat doesn't stay in Eco mode

Hi there, I have a Nest Thermostat that doesn't stay in Eco mode reliably.  Auto-Schedule is turned off, and Home/Away assist is turned off.  When I manually put it in Eco mode, it may stay there for several days but then I find it has randomly switched to Heat Mode.  And by randomly, I dont mean every time.  I travel a lot and some weeks it stays in eco mode the entire week.  And then sometimes it randomly changes modes from Eco to Heat.  I understand that the heat will run in Eco mode to maintain the minimum eco temperature.  This issue is with the Mode randomly changing from Eco Mode to Heat Mode.  I repeat, this is about the mode, not the fact that the heat runs while in Eco.    I did a factory reset a few months ago and that solved the issue for awhile, but now it is doing it again.   I am the only resident of this house, and no one else has access to the thermostat.  Any advice?

Hi ScottB2,

Yikes! If your Nest Thermostat is not staying reliably in Eco mode and randomly switches to Heat mode, despite having Auto-Schedule and Home/Away assist turned off, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Ensure that there are no external factors causing the thermostat to detect occupancy or temperature changes incorrectly. Check if the thermostat is placed away from drafts, direct sunlight, or heat sources that may affect its readings.
  2. Make sure your Nest Thermostat is running the latest firmware version. In the thermostat, go to Settings > Technical Info > Software. If an update is available, install it and see if it resolves the issue.
  3. Perform a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat and reconfigure it from scratch. In the thermostat, go to Settings > Reset > All Settings. This can help eliminate any lingering software glitches or misconfigurations. Refer to the Nest support documentation for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  4. Wireless interference from other devices in your home could potentially disrupt the communication between the thermostat and its sensors. Remove or relocate any nearby devices that may be causing interference, such as cordless phones, baby monitors, or Wi-Fi routers.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
