I just installed successfully my Nest Thermostat in my vacation home in Illinois where it is currently 45 degrees. This is simply a Nest Thermostat, it's not a Learning, nor an E-Thermostat nor 1st, 2nd, nor 3rd generation, etc. Just "Nest Thermostat." Anyway, it doesn't operate on my iPhone in any way like my 3rd generation or Learning Thermostats. The software is completely different. For one thing, it will NOT populate onto my Nest app, it will only use the Google Home app. Anyway, my problem is, it seems to be stuck in the leaf "eco" mode, no matter WHAT I do to override it. I have made schedules for every day of the week. I have labeled my schedule. I have selected that schedule. Yet, no matter what, the thermostat always reverts to "eco" mode and is using a lot of unnecessary energy because I want my home to stay at 50 degrees throughout the winter, as we only use this house in the summer. Yet Nest thermostat is keeping my house all kinds of random heats in this frustrating eco mode. I have tried everything to change it OUT of eco and INTO my own manual schedule to no avail. I have programmed and successfully maintain 6 other Nest thermostats (none are this type, and all of them are populated into my Nest app), and I can beautifully manage and maintain the schedules to the greatest detail. Its so frustrating to try to plod through the Google's climate app in order to try to manage this thermostat, and it just won't change out of "eco" mode. Thanks for any help!

This is being controlled by something called Nest Renew, designed to take advantage of times when energy is cleaner or less expensive. It comes up as a prompt during setup, which you'll have accepted, but it's easy to miss.
To stop Nest Renew adjusting your thermostat, you need to unsubscribe. You can not do this on the thermostat or in the app. To opt out. go to nestrenew.google.com.
As for using different apps, Nest Thermostat (2020 model) is designed for and setup with the Google Home app. You cannot add it to the Nest app.
