Nest Thermostat no longer connecting to Wifi

We purchased a Nest thermostat in about 4 years ago and had it installed in our townhome. It worked great at the time but recently has no longer been able to connect to Wifi (there is no W5 error code, the wifi network appears on our phones). The unit still connects to the furnace but the battery runs low daily and needs to be taken off the wall to charge-from my understanding, because it continues to search for Wifi which runs down the battery. We've searched for fixes and have reset the device as well as the router, and went through these fixes with tech support yesterday. Ultimately we were told that the Wifi sensor had failed and since the unit was one year beyond warranty, we'd just have to purchase a new one. It's frustrating for a smart Google Thermostat to no longer be functional because of Wifi issues after only 4 years. Is purchasing a new one really our only solution at this point?

I am sorry to hear this @mstap
I had the same issue within one year warrant period and Google replaced it under warranty.
RMA process was a pain and they charged my credit card although I had shipped the unit on time.
I had to work extensively with their support to get the the refund.
I have two thermostats that are three  years old and might replace with newer Honeywell thermostat at the time I replace the HVAC unit. However I might loose some of the nice features of Nest thermostat.

Other options are installing either  of these two c-wire or nest power connector.
