Nest Thermostat not Keeping Temperature at Night

Evdl7

Nest Thermostat seemed to be working fine for the past 6 months. Lately, we are noticing the Nest is not holding temperature throughout the night.  Even though we set it at 72 at night, we will wake up and thermostat is at 60 and says it will reach 72 in 2 hours or so. This has become  a serious issue for my family. Our babies wake up very cold.

Hi Evdl7,

Uh-oh! Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? And have you set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat? If your Nest Thermostat is not holding the set temperature throughout the night and you're waking up to a significantly lower temperature, there are a few possible causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Make sure the temperature sensors on your Nest Thermostat are not obstructed by any objects or affected by nearby heat sources. Ensure that the thermostat is mounted correctly and not exposed to direct drafts or sunlight, as this can impact temperature readings.
  2. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat is installed in an appropriate location. It should be placed away from any heat sources, such as vents or appliances, to avoid inaccurate temperature readings. Additionally, make sure the thermostat is not installed in a drafty area that may cause temperature fluctuations.
  3. Your HVAC system may have an underlying issue that is causing it to struggle to reach and maintain the desired temperature. It could be a malfunctioning component, a clogged filter, or an issue with the ductwork. Consider having your HVAC system professionally inspected and serviced to ensure it is operating correctly.
  4. Double-check the schedule and temperature settings on your Nest Thermostat. Ensure that the desired temperature is set at the appropriate times and that there are no conflicting or unexpected temperature changes programmed. Also, verify that the thermostat is not in an energy-saving or eco mode that could override your desired temperature settings.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
