Nest Thermostat power

Our Nest Thermostat is only charging if I take it out of the base & plug it in using the cable directly into the back. When I put the cable into the base & put the thermostat back on, the power just drains & it goes through a cycle of red light flashing green light on then needs to turn off.

@HLL , your nest learning thermostat is not receiving power from your HVAC system. You need to make sure that you have a common power wire attached to the C terminal.
If you have a wire attached to the C terminal use a volt ohm meter And verify that you’re receiving 24 V AC power coming between R and C.

I’m sorry but that’s a little too technical for me 😂 it lives on a little base in the living room which is plugged into the mains.

Hello HLL,

Thanks for reaching out to our community, and thank you, CoolingWizard, for chiming in.

Sometimes figuring out what could be the reason your thermostat is losing power can be complicated, but don't worry, we're here to help.

Can I know which specific type of thermostat you have in your home? It would be great to know as well if you're located in Europe, as the voltage and system configuration there is different.

You can check if your thermostat is getting enough power from your system to charge its battery by going into settings > Technical info > power. You can check the power values as well as the battery level.

Once you connect your thermostat back to its base, does it show you any error codes?

Let me know what you find out.

Regards,
Angel.

Hi!

I’m in Europe & its a nest learning thermostat. I was able to charge it directly with the cable in the back but once back in the base the power just drains.

There’s also now a W5 error code which I’m unable to remove by resetting and restarting, it doesn’t pick up any networks at all. So when it is charged it just cycles through trying to find a network then loses power again.

thanks
