The device is set to 71, it’s 69 in my house and it says that it’s heating but the furnace isn’t running. I lowered the heat and then raised it again and the furnace kicked on also it kicked on eventually once too.  Also it said it ran for 12 hours today with people home instead of the normal 7-8ish

I'm trying to trouble-shoot similar issue and have posted multiple times in recent weeks.   Nest Learning Thermostat at remote cabin was working fine for over a year.   Last few weeks much grief; thermostat states it is heating (orange display); however, unit is not sending demand signal (closing contact).   If pull the thermostat off the wall and touch heat to com; furnace starts as expected.  Today called Nest to get assistance and agent wanted to blame the wiring.   Clueless; even after explaining what I was doing to restart.  She asked to have access to phone/app; all that she stated was exactly what I was reading off the app.   Agent and manager had now manner to access and remotely restart thermostat even after we confirmed Device ID, model, etc.  Waste of time (like others have stated in this community regarding thermostat support).  Prior times I had to delete schedules and perform a hard restart both by menu and also by holding ring down for 10 sec.   In 3 cases the past week procedure works; however, it was a 3hr. drive each way.  In all cases unit was running fine for 2-3 days after & before I returned home.   Currently down again - received notification that I hit safety temperature.  Temperature is continuing to fall and desperately trying to find solution; likely will go below freezing inside tonight (-15 F projected) so pipes at risk.  I have since received errant notice that Temperatures are back to normal.   Needless to say, I'm returning to the cabin tomorrow with a trustworthy Honeywell wifi thermostat.   I suggest watching your temperatures closely as they may continue to drop ... even though Nest tells itself it is working.
