Nest Thermostat unable to locate/add to Google Home

Jei

Hello,

I had purchased a new Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen with professional installation completed today by a Nest Pro Engineer (here in the UK). Upon creating the Nest app, I had to use my Google Account to login and then had the thermostat added to the Nest app. I am now trying to find the thermostat on my Google Home account but to no avail.

I've tried everything (resets, uninstall and reinstall both apps, delete "Home" and add new one etc) but nothing is working. It seems that this is a common fault but not properly addressed on Google. The only "solution" that I could find on Google was that this thermostat should automatically be in my Google Home app as I activated my Nest Account via Google.

Even though I shouldn't have to because this should be automatically added, when I try to "Add Device" on Google Home and follow the links to Nest, it prompts me to login to Nest but my account details are unrecognised as the activation of the Nest thermostat and Nest app was done using my Google account linked! There is no way to change the fields to "Sign in with Google"

Does anyone know how to please fix this fault?

Many thanks,

J

In recent days, there have been many posts in this forum from customers who add their thermostat to the Google Nest app but it does not automatically show up in the Google Home app as it should.

One customer got it to show up by creating a temporary dummy empty "home/structure" in the Google Nest app, then going to the Google Home app to find that temporary dummy empty "home/structure", then deleting that temporary dummy empty "home/structure" in the Google Home app (which also deletes it from the Google Nest app). This action somehow triggered a sync between the two apps and their thermostat then showed up in their original Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Home app.

Having to deal with 2 apps is a real challenge.

Hello Jei,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue linking your Nest thermostat in the Google Home app—I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

Make sure to sign in with the same email address associated to your Nest app as with your Nest thermostat. If so, check for other available home structures where your thermostat might be connected. Check out this guide on how to switch home structures.

Please let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark

Hello @Markjosephp and @MplsCustomer ,

Thank you both for your responses.

Since my initial post, I found a YouTube video from another customer that ran through this error and in fact I did pretty much similar to what @MplsCustomer had kindly recommended.

Since the Nest Pro Engineer could not figure this out during the initial installation process, I followed the YouTube video instructions and I had added a new "home" then invited my wife's Google account to the new "Home" and then I left the account. It then synced fine with everything working as it should. Then she invited me back in and I kicked her out. It continues to run fine since then, both the Nest app and Google Home.

My only worry is for any future updates if this problem will return. Do either of you know if Google plan to resolve this issue? I have another friend who recently purchased the Nest Thermostat and has the exact same problem as me, only he has not been able to resolve it. The Nest Thermostat has only been working by means of physical use and not smart or wirelessly.

Many thanks,

Jei

Thanks for sharing your experience here as it helps us and the community to find fixes.

Before I mark this one as resolved, do you have any other questions or anything else you might need?
