Nest Thermostat, we need greater flexibility in heat/cool mode

Ultimately, I am looking for a way in my Nest thermostat to:

1. Lock thermostat in heat/cool mode

2. Provide a range a user can set the temperature to and the thermostat will heat or cool to that selected temperature

I realize you can lock in heat or cool mode and provide a temperature range in those modes.  This works fine in predominately hot or cold timeframes.  However, in hybrid months where one day is quite hot and the next day is cold, this isn't flexible enough.  There is a lock in heat/cool mode, but when locked, the user has no flexibility in selecting the temperature they want, they have to live with the min/max selected by the person who locked it.  Can this be done today?  If not, when will you add this to the product?
