Nest Thermostat wiring with Nest transformer due to no line power from HVAC controller

Since my furnace system does not provide line power to the 2-wired existing thermostat - I was told by Nest to get their optional transformer. We did. And wired as : control for heat W1 & R.  And the transformer wired to R & C.  But this did not work - transformer got too hot. Did not work.  Can you suggest better wire plan?

Thanks

Hi robertdavidb,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand your frustration with the Nest thermostat and transformer setup not working as expected. It sounds like the transformer might be overheating because it's supplying too much current.

Can you provide the next information:

  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Did you install a Nest power connector?
  • Could you share a picture of your previous thermostat wiring and a picture of your current wiring with the transformer?

Let me know once you have this information.

Regards,

Jonathan
