Nest Thermostat

RexTanner
Community Member

Thermostat senses that no one is home and defaults to Eco mode which turns the system off and defaults to the setting of 82°.   I have tried deleting all settings, Factory reset, setting preferences temperature, all settings still default to 82° when it senses no one is home.  Turned off presence sensing also.  This is unacceptable when outside temperature are above 90°.  I get to Come home to an 82° house.

I am wondering the same thing. The heat index is 105 and it's 97 degrees outside. I come home to a 80 degree home. I really don't like that. Is there a way to fix that.

If you don't want to come home to a hot house, then turning off Home/Away Assist should work.  If this feature is off, the Nest should follow whatever schedule you set.  (I've had Home/Away Assist turn itself back on once or twice, so it makes sense to check even if you think it's off.)  I would also set the Eco temperature lower  --  to something acceptable  --  in case the Nest goes into Eco Mode anyway.

If that doesn't work, are you able to remotely force the Nest to cool the house?  Very inconvenient to have to remember to do that all the time, but better than nothing . . .

Yes, tried all of that off, on, including setting temps and preferences in Home/Away.  Still defaults to Eco setting of 82° no matter what is set.  I will continue to check it every 2 hours on the app and reset the temperature.   It's unfortunate that it defaults to a setting that cannot be changed or disabled since our whole house is run on Google, lights, entertainment and security.  Will be replacing it soon with a suitable replacement.

Nothing that was suggested or the updates that were performed did not work.  Changing safety temps to either extreme high or low made no difference.   After 1 hour of in activity it still changed to ECO mode.  I have since replaced with with a different brand.

Thank you.

Wow, that is frustrating.  One more tiny thing to look at  --  what is your Safety Temperature (for cooling) set to?  According to the documentation, the cooling Safety Temperature is off by default, so probably this isn't your Nest's problem.  But as of last winter there was a heating Safety Temperature bug that hit some of us.  The bug was that the Nest could get stuck in Safety Temperature mode and the only way to get it out was to change the Safety Temperature to a much higher or lower setting.  Again, probably irrelevant for you, but will take only a moment to check.

Same issue, and safety temp won’t go lower than 95 for me. Moved Eco down to 80 and still 82 when we come back.
