Nest Thermostat

Hi, I tried to install my Nest Thermostat.

I keep getting the error of that it cannot detect my YCWGR wires and C wire cannot get power.

Steps that I have tried already to resolve this:

1. Strip the wires for a clean straight wire to made sure the wires are firmly in place with the little button held down

2. Take out the batteries on the thermostat to reset

3. Power is turned on at the breaker

@bearbearbear

Can you post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring here?

Did you turn the breaker off before you started?

I didn't save the picture of the thermostat before installing nest but here's what the thermostat looks like.

The wires were in C,R, W/OB, Y, and G.

Yes, I turned off the breaker before I started.

@bearbearbear

When you moved the wires over to the Nest which terminals did you connect them to?

Which wires did you tell the Google Home app you had?

Hi @bearbearbear,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest thermostat is not detecting the YCWGR and C wires. Help's here.

@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for your help, that's a great resource for everyone!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What kind of error message did you have?
  • Is the power breaker on?
  • Would you mind sending me a photo of how the thermostat wires are currently connected?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany
