Nest Thermostats no longer supported in Google Home

I have two Nest Thermostats in my home and they were both working fine and could be seen and adjusted from the Google Home iOS app. Some period of time has passed and when I went in to make some adjustments, they now both appear as numbers and offline. 98R754 is an example of what was labeled as my "downstairs" thermostat. When I try to reconnect it, I get a useless help message to make sure both my phone and thermostat are on the same network; which they are.

Has something changed in the last few months which created this as nothing has changed in my house and both thermostats say they are connected to the internet/Wi-Fi when I physically go into their menus.

Thank you.

Hello QQQQ2day,

I understand your frustration with the recent issues you've encountered with your Nest Thermostats. It seems like a perplexing situation, especially when everything was working fine previously.

I can suggest a few steps that might help troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Ensure that your Google Home and Nest apps, as well as the software on your Nest Thermostats, are up-to-date. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.
  2. Try rebooting both your Nest Thermostats and the router. This simple step might help refresh the connection and resolve any temporary glitches.
  3. Double-check the Wi-Fi settings on your thermostats. Even if they indicate a connection, removing and re-establishing the connection could resolve any issues. Follow the process in the thermostat's menu to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. Check for any possible power-related issues in your thermostat's Equipment settings or Battery status. A low battery would disable the thermostat's connectivity in order to save battery.
  5. Remove the thermostat display from its base and disconnect the batteries for at least 3 minutes before plugging them back in.

I hope this helps, and let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
