Nest app not connecting to the thermostat

My Nest app has worked for years and has controlled my thermostat brilliantly! However something has changed today as when I open the app it says “offline”. The thermostat itself is online and is still controlling the heating - it seems to be between the app and the thermostat. I have logged out of app, deleted the app and reloaded it and tried the range of advice that the app gives. A key issue is that I reset the thermostat and it now indicated no app is connected - when I try to get the pairing code it basically says try again later….which I have done many times….all to no avail!

its very annoying indeed - for something so great to glitch like this and to not have found a solution is frustrating me greatly…

Any solutions please?

Hi Stuartwmcc,

Yikes! I understand how frustrating it can be when your Nest app shows your thermostat as "offline" and you're unable to establish a connection. Let's try these:

  1. Ensure your internet connection is stable by connecting your mobile device or app to the Nest, and verify this by accessing other websites or apps on your device.
  2. Restarting your mobile device can resolve connectivity issues by pressing and holding the thermostat display to turn it off, waiting a few seconds, and then turning it back on.
  3. To ensure optimal connectivity between your Nest Thermostat and the app, check the Wi-Fi signal strength. If weak, consider moving your router closer or using a Wi-Fi extender to enhance the signal strength.
    • Go to Settings > Technical Info > Power. The signal strength has a maximum value of 100. A signal strength of 75 is considered strong, while a value of 36 or lower is considered weak.
  4. To resolve connectivity issues with your Nest Thermostat, power cycle by removing it from the wall, disconnecting power for a few minutes, then reconnecting it to the power source and waiting for it to restart.
  5. Make sure that the Nest app is up-to-date. Check for Nest app updates in your device's app store to resolve bugs or compatibility issues.
  6. If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can try a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat. However, this will erase all settings and configurations, so you need to set it up from scratch. Go to Settings > Reset > All Settings.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
