Nest blowing heat on cool

I followed the wire codes on my old unit to track on the Nest 3rd gen … but I’m only getting heat instead of cool. I reviewed some other threads and couldn’t find any resolution that worked for me.

@EfficientKitten

If your system starts to blow cool air when your Nest thermostat is in Heat mode (or if it blows warm air when its in Cool mode), change the settings for orientation of your heat pump.

Nest Learning Thermostat
  1.  On your thermostat, go to Settings.
  2. Select Equipment.
  3. Select Continue > Continue.
  4. Select Heat Pump.
  5. The Nest Thermostat defaults to an O setting for heat
    pumps.
    • If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    • If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. Test your heating and cooling again to make sure the issue is resolved.

@Patrick_Caezza - thank you for your response! I went into menu and there was no "heat pump" option to select in the equipment settings screen. 🤔 Any ideas?

Hi EfficientKitten,

Thanks for posting in the Community! Sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat isn’t cooling. No worries, help is here! To assist you with the best solution, I would like to get a bit more information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)
  • Can I get a photo or description of your previous and current wiring configuration?

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Axel.
