If you want to talk to someone in Support:
1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

The E299 error means there is a power issue.
The E299 error is also just for the Google Nest THermostat (2020) and not the Nest Thermostat E.
Did you just install this thermostat?
Double-check that the power to the system is on, that all of the furnace covers are installed correctly, and the 24V fus on the control board in the furnace/air handler isn't blown.
