Nest compatibility and wiring

Sabri1
Community Member

I am trying to decide which thermostat to buy and correct wiring. I have tried to attach pictures of my white rodgers thermostat , but it is not letting me, here is a description:

Blue --> C

Red --> R

Yellow --> Y1

White --> W2

Green --> G

Orange --> O

What is confusing me is a short red wire going from E/W1 to W2.  I have seen similar threads but none is exactly like the one I have. I am told I have a heat pump.

Question 1: Is there a nest thermostat compatible with my system?

Question 2: If so, what is the correct wiring schema?

thank you

Hi Sabri1,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats. Fortunately, your thermostat wires are compatible with our Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E and should be wired to their bases as shown:

With Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation:

With Nest Thermostat E:

Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe

Hi there,

Yes, the jumper wire is not needed for Nest Thermostats, so you can disregard it.

Thanks,

Zoe

Thank you so much, This is very helpful. Just to make sure, the jumper red wire from W2 to E/W2 is NOT needed, right?

Your compatibility test said it was compatible, but when installing it says my system is not compatible.

1. jumper from Rh to Rc, 2. pink wire from Rh, 3. white wire from W, 4. green wire from G, 5. yellow wire to Y.

Will the cheap Nest work with this???  Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for looking into this, Zoe.

@Sabri1, I hope the wiring guide helps. If you need more assistance with the installation and setup, let us know—we're always here to help!

@Michael24, thanks for posting here on this thread about your system configuration with the Nest Thermostat. Given your current thermostat's wiring setup, it appears to be Nest-compatible. To have a better visual so we can confirm its configuration, can you share with us a photo of it and tell us the make and model of your HVAC system?

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Mark

Once again, Thank you @Markjosephp and @zoeuvre My problem is solved.
