Nest compatibility check - picture

Hi there,

posting this picture because the compatibility checker told me to do so.

Questions

  • one article I read said that proprietary systems are not compatible with nest. I don't know whether my system is proprietary, but I do have wires labeled O/B and C...wire O/B (orange) is linked up to O. Blue wire (labeled C) is connected to power.
  • Black wire is not connected to anything (but it is not a stranded wire) - it is NOT labeled. is this a ground? where would this connect on the nest thermostat?
  • thanks in advanced

added labels because they're not clearadded labels because they're not clearIMG_7411.jpg

Purchased Nest Learning to control both Heat (boiler) and AC (older system) in New England.  Installed 1 Apr 21.  Used heat and AC through mid June before transitioning to summer AC.  While getting ready for winter on 6 Oct 21, turned on heat and controller in TACO box (interface between thermostats and boiler) just kept clicking.  Called HVAC Co for PM and troubleshooting.  No issue with boiler.  Nest giving N72 error - no power to heat Rh wire (not true).  Tech bypassed thermostat and started boiler.  Contacted Nest - given unbelievable run around, including sending part that they knew wouldn't fix it.  Contacted again today (10-29) and given same run around.   Won't acknowledge problem or propose solution.  Blames me.  This is a common problem and not unique.  Save the hassle and buy another brand.  You can thank me later.

Hey dpitfield,

I would be more than happy to take a closer look and assist you with the wiring. Do you mind me asking if you have used our Compatibility Checker yet? You would be able to enter the wires you are seeing, and it would let you know if you are indeed compatible.

If you are unsure on how to still wire the thermostat from there, you can also have a Nest Pro come out and take a closer look. They would be able to review the system and install the device. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I want to ensure you are good to go.

Best regards,

Jake

Jake,

The compatibility test test I may have a dual system.  Which I dont think I do.  Are you able to tell from the wiring picture I sent?

Thanks,

Darren

Hey dpitfield,

Taking a closer look at your system, I am seeing an E wire. This is usually linked with emergency heat. Do you happen to know if that is the case with your system? I am also seeing a stranded brown wire. Do you happen to know if this is still linked to your HVAC system? Please let me know.

Best regards,

Jake
