Nest compatibility questions

Hi all,

OhmConnect is doing a promotion where it's giving out free nest thermostats since I live in a hot area and they're really trying to promote people saving energy and gas. I wanted to sign up for one but not sure if my apartment is even compatible. No central AC. But I've got 2 wall furnace units downstairs and upstairs. There's a thermostat upstairs that I quickly found out does not do a single thing. It's wired and it tells the temperature, but it does not control the heating even though it looks like it should. Also not sure why it's even installed if it doesn't control anything.

That's an issue in itself and was hoping maybe installing the nest one to replace that and make it actually functional. The landlord I have seems to have maybe just installed random things without actually properly setting them up because I'm pretty sure the 2nd floor heater is a different brand and model than the one downstairs but both are controlled by a Honeywell wall fixture that just turns them on and off. There's temp displays but I don't know how accurate that is because it just gets everything blazing hot.

I'm going to include pictures of the heating units upstairs and downstairs. And then the thermostat upstairs and the wall fixture for downstairs.

Thermostat upstairs that doesn't really do anything is Pro 1 IAQ T701.

Sorry for the low quality photos, had to compress them to get them to fit in this post.

The unit downstairs is a Williams 35GV C 5T NAT heater and the one upstairs is a Molly del mar?? No labeling for a model number.

Heater upstairs is this Molly one.

Downstairs is Honeywell Class 2 LR95329 which controls both furnaces

I just don't know which one I need to replace or if I can face the Honeywell and the Nest one to control the heating upstairs and downstairs?

Hi thesilentriver,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

Based on the photos you've included, the Nest Thermostat is compatible to your heating system. The first photo shows a heating (2 wire system) which can be wired to the Nest Thermostat in the same way.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Jake,

Just another question, since the thermostat can be installed upstairs, will this control the heating upstairs the same way the Honeywell one controls both from downstairs? Glad to know that the thermostat upstairs is compatible. I did research though, and both heating units are millivolt, is that still compatible with nest? Or does that override the fact that the upstairs thermostat is compatible?

Hey thesilentriver,

I did review this article here, and I am showing that millivolt systems are not compatible. Millivolt systems use less energy, and the Nest Thermostat needs a 24V current. I would recommend taking a closer look at the article for more details. I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Jake
