Nest does not stop heating even when set temperature has been reached

Hi,

My nest won't stop working although the set temperature has been reached. I saw one of the responses that mentioned removing the nest from the back plate to see if it stops, and it did the minute I took it off. As a result I always need to check the app and see if the temperature has reached and turn the mode off so that it stops heating. Can I get help resolving this issue?

How old is your thermostat?  My former thermostat was doing exactly the same thing my HVAC technician told me to just replace it (which I did).  Problem solved.

Hi @PetroHawk it's at least 3 years old. Kind of sucks to have to replace it when it still technically works ! Thank you!

I agree with you 100%.  My former thermostat was (is), a Wyze unit, and it worked fine until it didn't !   It was also about 3 years old.  I still have another Wyze unit that continues to work fine.

I am having this same issue with my Nest Learning Thermostat and the same resolution of removing the thermostat from the back plate to turn it off. Here looking for a solution.

Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm truly sorry to hear the thermostat does not stop running after reaching the temperature. I'm here to assist you in resolving this.

To provide the most accurate guidance, I'll need some additional information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • Is this a new installation? If not, when did the issue start?
  • Do you have conventional or heat pump system?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Does the issue happen on heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Do you have a common ground wire or C wire?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?

In the meantime, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

  • Disbale any schedule can be on.
  • Check energy history.
  • Make sure the thermostat wires are completely inserted to the terminals.
    • For safety reasons, turn off the HVAC system's power at the fuse box or system switch.
    • Remove the thermostat's display.
    • Check each wire connector and ensure that each wire is fully inserted.

Please, keep me posted!

Hi Eitan, Thank you for your answer. See answers below:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have? It's a 3rd generation
  • Is this a new installation? If not, when did the issue start? This is not a new installation. It's at least the 2nd winter since this has been happening
  • Do you have conventional or heat pump system? Heat Pump system
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system? Summer 2024
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system? No
  • Does the issue happen on heating only, cooling only, or both? I only use heating
  • Do you have a common ground wire or C wire? I do not know
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks? None

I recently disconnected and then reconnected the sensor that I am using to set the temperature and the issue is persisting.

May I ask why I need to disable the schedule? And why check the energy History .... I know I am using my heat too much considering the system does not work.

I will check the wires. They are well placed, I need to check if they are well inserted.

It also feels like sometimes the air that is coming out with cool instead of hot.

Thank you!
