My Nest Thermostat has been removed from the wall during my renovations taking about 2 months. Will the battery be dead? What should I do and how should I store it?

For that length of time, the batteries might die. But I wouldn't worry too much, as you can install two new AAA batteries. You will have to set it up again, so it is recommended that you write down or take pictures of the current settings.

I was under the impression my Nest Thermostat uses lithium rechargeable batteries that cannot be changed.

Hi mattlana75,
Thanks for posting here in the Community. I see you have the Nest Thermostat 2020. If the Nest Thermostat has been idle for a couple of months while the batteries are placed on it, you may first try to check if the Nest Thermostat will power on and, better yet, check for its battery level on the Nest Thermostat by going to Settings, then looking for Battery, and then tapping Battery Status after you set it up again on the Google Home app.
After that, observe the Nest Thermostat for 24 hours if it will show any power error. If that happens, we recommend you replace the batteries with the recommended AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries, such as Energizer AAA 1.5 V Alkaline Battery.
Let us know if you have any other questions, We're happy to help.
I appreciate your help, Patrick_Caezza.
Best,
Zoe
