Nest is not connecting to the Wi-fi

Khushboo210

My Nest Thermostat was working fine for 2 months and last night all of a sudden got disconnected from Wi-Fi. I did all the troubleshooting steps shown in the Nest app. Even factory reset the device but somehow Nest did not discover the Wi-fi network at all. It stays connected to the Nest app but is not able to discover wi-fi network.
It was also taking some time to show the screen

Hi Khushboo210,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check if you are still in need of any help. If so, please answer the following:

  1.  Make sure that the thermostat is at least 12 feet from the Wi-Fi router.
    • If the thermostat is too close to the router, it might lead to an unreliable connection.
    • If the thermostat is at least 12 feet (3.6 meters) from the Wi-Fi router but the situation persists, proceed to the next step.
  2. Check for wireless interference. Other devices that operate on a 2.4 GHz frequency may interfere with the Nest thermostat's ability to communicate with the Wi-Fi router or access point.
  3. Turn off any devices that may cause interference. Then try to connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi again.
The following are examples of devices that may cause interference:
    • Cordless phone
    • Baby monitors
    • Microwaves
    • Bluetooth devices
    • Wireless video equipment (If your thermostat doesn't experience wireless interference but the situation persists, proceed to the next step).
  4. Verify that other devices can find the Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
    • Check that your Wi-Fi network appears on the list of Wi-Fi networks on their phone or another device.
    • If other devices also can't detect the SSID, make sure the router is turned on.
    • If you verified that the network is active and the SSID appears, but situation persists, proceed to the next step.
  5. Make sure the thermostat is with the recommended network settings.
    • For the Nest Thermostat to work as intended when it's connected to a network, make sure your router settings are set to the recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings.
    • If your router settings are set to the recommended settings but the situation persists, contact your ISP. If you already contacted the ISP or refuse to do so, proceed to the next step.
  6. Check if the thermostat can connect to a mobile hotspot. To further check your Nest Thermostat's connectivity, connect it to a mobile hotspot.
    • If the thermostat connects to a mobile hotspot, the situation may be with the Wi-Fi configuration, and you may have to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
    • If the thermostat still can't connect to the network, proceed to the next step.
  7. Restart the router. The situation might be with the router, even if the other wireless devices can connect to it. A simple restart of the router usually resolves connection issues.
    • While you need to unplug and plug back most routers into your power source to restart it, you should refer to your router’s manual for specific instructions.
    • If you restart the router but the situation persists, move to the next step.
  8. Reset the thermostat's network.
    • To erase previous network connections, go to Settings and then Reset and then Network. If there's no option for Network, select Account connection instead.
    • Select Settings and then Network to search for available connections again. If you reset the Account connection of your thermostat, pair the device back to your Nest account.

Let us know how it goes. I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hello Romano,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. Just to check: are you getting any error messages on your Nest thermostat? Have you already tried factory resetting your Nest? If not, here is a link on how to do a restart or reset a Nest thermostat.

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

Hi Larry22,

Thanks for posting, and I'm sorry to hear that you encountered the same thing with your Nest Thermostat; that is not what we wanted you to experience. Could you also follow the steps I provided above so we can isolate If this is caused by the thermostat itself or the internet connection.

Let us know how that works.

Regards,

Zoe

Hello, I am also having the same problem, I followed the steps you listed above but it is still not working. It has been offline for three days now, worked fine since October 2022 with no issues.
