Why do my nest display screens no longer wake up and show status when I walk by? even if I stop and hang out in front of them and even when I place my hand directly in front of them the screen stays asleep. Only when I physically touch the nest will the screen wake up and and display status.
is this a change in functionality? Thanks for any insight or suggestions

Hi rt128,
Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your Nest doesn't wake up when you approach, and I know this can be frustrating when your Nest thermostat isn't working properly. Don't worry, I'm here to help!
Please follow these steps to check if you have the "Wake on approach" option activated:
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Manuel

Dear Manuel, thank you SO MUCH for your suggestion. I did set the wake on approach setting based on your guidance. Unfortunately the behavior has not changed - it still does not wake up the display when I am near. However if I set the cooling/heating to OFF and then walk by the Nest the display immediately wakes up. It does not do that when I have cooling turned on. Hmmm.
Note that these are new versions of the Nest (purchased in the last year) and the display has behaved properly for a long time. I wondered if a software update from Google might have broken or changed something with this feature.
Also not that I have two of these Nest devices and they both have the same issue. Sigh.
Any other ideas or suggestions?
thanks again!

Hi rt128,
Thanks for replying and trying the steps I sent you. I have a question: do you have the C wire (common wire) installed on your Nest Thermostat? I asked because the sensor to wake up on approach won't activate if you don't have a C wire to avoid discharging the battery on your Nest Thermostat.
I will be waiting for your response.
Regards,
Manuel
