Nest smart thermostat doesnt charge or connect to wifi

I have a nest smart thermostat I purchased 6 months ago. Today it failed to connect to the wifi and I discovered that the battery level was low. I reset the router then the furnace and it still would not charge. I tried to charge manually via the usb but it does not charge. As this unit is 6 months old it should be covered under warranty for replacement right?

Hello Orangeman,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Nest thermostat. Given that you've already taken steps like resetting the router and furnace, as well as attempting to charge it manually via USB without success, it seems like you've covered the basic troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional steps you might consider:

  • Check for any wiring reports or message codes that would help us determine possible power-related issues.
  • Gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings. If the battery level drops to 3.7 volts, consider charging the thermostat display for an hour and ensuring that all wires are properly connected to its base.
  • Have a look at this article to learn about the common or C wire and the Nest Power Connector and how they would help to deliver constant power to the thermostat.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
