Nest temp reading is wrong

CBroughtonKW

We recently suspected the indoor temperature reading is incorrect on our Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen). We have matched it to a mercury indoor thermometer that we now keep near the Nest thermostat. Nest is reading 5° cooler than reading on thermometer. Should I reset to factory settings? Readjust wiring?

Hey CBroughtonKW,

Thanks for posting ― let's sort thiss out.

A few questions:

  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If yes: Do they show the same issue?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If yes: Would you mind listing them?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Go to Settings > Technical Info > Network.
  2. Check for the Signal strength value.
  3. Restart the thermostat
  4. Turn on Sunblock
  5. Check if the thermostat is near a heat source

Keep us posted.
