RAYJAY

Hello out there, I am having problems with my home/Away sensor initially my problem was my phone would show home and away like it should, but my thermostat would not react to my phone. It would still react to the preset temperature that I have set. In other words, Lets say my preset is set to eco 9:00 at 64 degrees for when I leave for work. But lets say today I stay home, my phone would say home, but my thermostat would fellow the preset of away. I have tied everything online for hours, rests, but still will not fellow the home and away like my phone is saying.

Hi RAYJAY,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is not responding correctly to the Home/Away status of your phone. Where you talking on the phone at the time they got home? If you were, this may be expected behavior because some phone carriers won’t allow for phone calls and data transfer at the same time. You can end the call and open the app to trigger the home mode change. Let's give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure your Nest Thermostat is online.
  2. Enable your phone's location settings and grant the Nest app permission to access your location for accurate Home/Away status determination.
  3. Ensure proper configuration of the Nest Home/Away Assist, open the Nest app, navigate to "Settings," and ensure the "Home/Away Assist" option is enabled and configured according to your preferences.
  4. Check which devices are set to contribute to Home and Away. Go to Settings and then Presence sensing.
  5. Make sure location services are turned on for any contributing mobile devices. Check if location services are turned on as it is necessary for Home and Away to work properly.
  6. Check if there are multiple devices signed into the same account.
    • Being signed into multiple devices at once can cause issues with Home and Away behavior.
    • You should invite trusted home members to share access to the home with your own account in the app instead of sharing the same account.
    • After accepting the home invite, each home member can contribute their own phone’s location to Home and Away to prevent unexpected behavior, like the thermostat going into Eco mode while someone’s still home.
    • Refer to Learn about Family Accounts and how to share access to your Nest home for more information about sharing home access using the Nest app or refer to Share a home and devices in the Google Home app for how to do this in the Google Home app.
  7. Check to see if the app recorded any activity in history view.
    • Any recorded activity should provide an explanation of when and why the home state changed over the previous 10 days. For example, the note "Home: Activity in the house. Living Room Thermostat 7:30 P.M." means that the home switched out of Away mode because the customer’s thermostat saw activity.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe
