Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. It looks like you have the Nest Thermostat 2020. A few questions: what type of batteries did you use for your thermostat? Do you have a C wire? Before the issue occurs, did you notice any power or low battery messages?

I tried a few types of batteries. I do not have a c wire. the low voltage message was on my phone as a reminder but I hadn’t looked at the unit itself.

The Nest Thermostat 2020 requires a C wire or a Nest Power Connector to ensure that it will receive sufficient power to operate. Let's check if you have a spare wire that we can use as an additional power source. Please take a photo of the wires connected to your system's control board, and make sure that the labels of the wires are visible.
