I have the Google Nest thermostat set at a temperature for the air conditioner. It will not click on sometimes unless i go over near the thermostat to "wake it up." it seems as if it falls asleep. For example, i had it set to 74 the other day. When I came home, the thermostat said it was 78 degrees in the house. When i walked over to the Nest, then it clicked on and the air started. Why does it seems to sleep?

Do you have Home/Away Assist turned on? This is a "smart feature" that attempts to cool the house only when somebody is home. It can be tricky to use. If you turn off Home/Away Assist, does the Nest follow your schedule properly?
