What kind of heating system do you have? Is it hot water system with radiators or baseboard?
Do you have zone valves?
Post pics of the relay box where the thermostat wires connect at the heating system.

Hi Pepe18,
I just wanted to jump in real fast to see if you saw Houptee's reply and to see if you still needed some help on this or if you were able to get it sorted out. If you are still needing some help, just let us know and we'll be happy to continue helping.

Heating system is gas fired. The chatter takes place at the A/C box (actually it is the A/C relay the one coming On and Off. This is located on the compressor housing which is in the garden outside, whereas the evaporator and furnace box are in the attic. Chatter only takes place when heat is on. Thanks.

I should have said it is a forced air heating system, Lennox.

Is it a Heat Pump system that runs the outside unit when heat is on or a regular gas furnace with ac?
If its a regular non heat pump system, then the outside unit relay should not even be trying to energize and would possibly be caused by wires touching somewhere.
If it is a heat pump then check wires are tight on the screw terminals and if any wire nuts on the thermostat wires check they are good connections no loose or corroded.
That outdoor relay is called a Contactor Relay and it could just be worn out and going bad if all the wires look good. You can buy them online just search for 24 volt contactor they are easy to replace. Pull the power disconnect outside and turn off furnace power inside also if you try to replace it since the 24 volts comes from indoor unit and the 220 volts is the outdoor unit disconnect box.

I tried to answer from my mail box… no luck…lol
regular gas furnace, forced air. I have had to replace contactors about 3 or 4 times in the last couple of years because the chatter burns them. Perhaps the contactor is improperly wired?

Maybe the transformer is weak and causes contactor to not fully pull in.
If all the wires are clean and tight only thing I can think of is low voltage from transformer.
You can get one online on Amazon or other websites.
I would use a transformer rated 24v 40VA in the furnace that will be plenty of power.

Yes. Still chatters, not a very fast chatter, though. Checking online I see it is a common complaint of users all over the country.

Hi Pepe18,
Thanks for the response. Your wiring and the power reading looks good. To isolate the issue, could you try removing the C wire? Please make sure that you turn off the breakers before touching any wires.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Edward

Thank you once more.

(
only concern would be regarding if the removal of C wire could affect the cooling aspect of the unit., in that case we can always go back to the original configuration).
have a nice Thanksgiving Day!

Hi Pepe18,
Thanks for the response. Your cooling should still work without the C wire but you're correct, in case something comes up, you can always connect it and reach out to us so we can investigate further.
Thanks,
Edward
