Nest thermostat constantly shows e298 then starts cooling again, off and on all day

My new Nest will operate perfectly for hours, then shut off the AC with e298 shown. A few hours later the system is back up and running and cooling and I did not touch a thing. This repeats several times every day.

What could be a possible cause for this type of intermittent behavior?

Thank you!

Marc

Hello Marc,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. Let's sort this out.

Could you gather its power readings in the Power Info section under Technical Info? Does it have a C-wire? Also, going over these steps might help:

  1. Turn off the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box before touching the wire.
  2. Remove the common wire and leave it disconnected.
  3. Ensure that all the other wires are properly connected and the tabs are pushed down.
  4. Take out the thermostat batteries for at least 3 minutes before plugging them back in.
  5. Turn on the HVAC system's power.
  6. Proceed with adding it to the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark
