I just watched a YouTube video trying to trouble shoot my Nest and he said NO you do not have to. Go to YouTube and enter that in the search bar. I don't remember the guys name but NEST troubleshoot might work he has many videos.

Hey folks,
Thanks for answering, MonicaH.
@Lrjahn, unlike most thermostats, the Google Nest thermostats do not use jumper wires. Since your current thermostat has jumper wires, do not connect them to your Nest thermostat and just follow the wiring diagram the Nest app gives you during setup.
Best,
Melba
