Nest thermostat just stopped connecting to network and cannot detect it anymore

The Nest Thermostat stopped connecting to the network after about a year. I have done everything offered as standard steps to correct it, all the way to a full factory reset, and nothing works. It is the only device in my house that cannot find that network, including my other Nest Thermostat, and it still cannot find the network. Now that I did a full reset, it will not work at all, and can't find the wires it says. Are there any other options?

So now I was able to connect the network but it says the wires cannot be found and now says no power. I've fully reset about 10 times now and different issue pop up.

Since you've already tried the basics, I’d recommend checking if the Wi-Fi channel is set to 2.4GHz—sometimes the thermostat has trouble with 5GHz. If that doesn't help, it might be worth contacting Nest support for further troubleshooting or exploring if there's a hardware issue with the device itself.

Hi Rog311,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing inconveniences by reconnecting the Nest thermostat to the WiFi network, and now it is getting a power error message. Help's here!

I appreciate all the workarounds that you've already performed to reconnect your Nest thermostat to the network again. To better investigate the inconvenience with the power message, I'd like to ask the following:

  • What is the model of your Nest thermostat? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify your thermostat model.
  • Did you get any specific error code for the power message?
  • What type of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system do you have?
  • Have you used your AC unit recently?  Frequent AC use during hot weather can cause the drip pan to fill with water or the drain tubes to clog. This can lead to the AC or heat pump shutting off to prevent water overflow.
  • Do you have a common wired or Nest power connector installed in your HVAC system?
  • When did you install the thermostat?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture of your wiring installation of the affected thermostat?

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following:

  • Check the air filter. Your HVAC system needs good airflow to operate properly.
  • Ensure the wires are fully inserted into the terminal and the connector buttons are securely pushed down. This guarantees proper wire connections. For reference, you can check out this article: Troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior. Important: Before touching any wires, turn off the power to your HVAC system at the breaker box.
  • If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat, please go to Settings > Technical Info > Power on your Nest Learning thermostat and provide me with the VOC, VIN, and IIN values.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
