Nest thermostat not connecting during setup

Ws2945

Hi there,

The below has been tested on 3 different thermostats and 3 different devices. The same occurs for each.

everything is wired up and I have gone through the setup process until it goes to connect the device to the app. The screen on the thermostat says complete on the app and scrolls through a few different languages. At this point it either says can’t connect or something went wrong and the options are try again, learn more and exit setup.

I have the following to remedy and nothing has worked.

  • Reset thermostat by removing batteries for 5 mins
  • created a new home space in the home app.
  • reinstalled the app and attempted setup via 3 different devices.
  • turned off Wi-Fi on devices.
  • tried connecting the thermostat when detached from the wall: this is the closest I got, it asked me what wires I had, allowed me to run a test and then first told me there might not be enough power in the batteries (I changed and tried again, then on all other attempts connected then immediately sent me back to the Home Screen as if I hadn’t set anything up.

please help, google suggested defective units but I find that hard to believe with 3 units all from different places.

please help!

That’s not really helpful no. I am still in the setup phase while that article seems to be focused on Wi-Fi issues

Hey there,

Are the devices all connected to the same Wi-Fi as the mobile device you are using? Do you happen to know if you have a dual-band network? Nest products can't connect to 5GHz. Most times, if you are having trouble connecting the device to the app, it has to do with the Wi-Fi. Here is an article with more details on how to set up your device.

Best regards,

Jake
