Nest thermostat shows offline in the app every time I remotely command it

This happens on  IOS both on phone and from a browser on my MacBook.

Nest is connected to Wifi and online.

However, if I make any kind of change in the settings, and remote command, it goes offline in the app and I have to wait until it reconnects on its own - in 15-30 minutes.

The thermostat does not go offline though - it only appears offline in the app.

I have two thermostats - one in each of my homes and this only happens with the device I manage remotely.

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to hear your Nest thermostat shows offline in the app every time you remotely command it, so don’t worry, I’m here to assist you.

To help me troubleshoot your Nest thermostat, can you tell me which model you're using? If you're unsure, this article can help identify it: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.

Hi semserus,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I’m sorry to know your Nest app shows offline on your phone, so don’t worry. Let's see what I can do to get it working smoothly again.

Check out these steps:

  • Ensure the thermostat and your phone are connected to the same wi-fi network.
  • Reset the account: Go to settings, choose reset, then account connections. The thermostat is going to perform a reboot; after that, please reconnect your thermostat to your wi-fi network again. Go to settings, then network, and enter your wi-fi name.
  • On your phone, remove the thermostat from the Nest app: Tap the option settings, select the thermostat you want to remove, and then choose the option remove.
  • After this step, go to your thermostat, choose settings, then the Nest app. To pair your device with the Nest app again, you can use the entry key or QR code.

For additional assistance, please refer to this article: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app.

Let me know if you need further help.
