Nest thermostat won’t connect to Wi-Fi

Hello.  I recently received two new nest thermostats in the mail.  I hooked the first one up on my first floor and had zero issues.  I went to install the second for my second floor unit and it will not connect to Wi-Fi.  It can’t even find the Wi-Fi.  I have tried restarting the router, restarting the thermostat.. all with no success.  Yet the first floor one continues to work with no issues.  Did injust receive a bad thermostat?

HI Ncop143,

Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about what's happening.

Have you tried to swap the two thermostats? Was it working fine when you plug it in to the first floor base? Are you getting any errors from the thermostat display?

Let me know by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I took your suggestion and tried hooking it up to the first floor base and still had no success.  There are no error codes, it just tells me to set up the Wi-Fi in the app.  When I go through that process it always gets stuck at the “Connecting to an assisting nest device” page and is always unsuccessful.

This is frustrating since the other thermostat o have worked on the first try and I have had no connectivity issues at all.  This second floor one has not been able to connect since day 1.  I know it is no the strength of the Wi-Fi signal as I gave several devices on the second floor, within close proximity of the thermostat, and they have perfect wifi signal strength.  What can I do?  Can you send me another thermostat?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Ncop143,

Thanks for the update and for explaining further on what happened after the suggested troubleshooting.

Few questions to further help us resolve the issue. Which Nest Thermostat are you using? Are you using the Nest app or Google Home app for the setup? Try removing the Nest Thermostat from the base and put it nearer the other thermostat and continue with the WiFi setup.

Also, you may want to swap these thermostat and check if it's going to have the same error.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Ryan

I’m having the exact same issue.  Did you ever figure it out?

I switched thermostats and it didn’t work. Apparently there’s a problem with the Nest device

Hi there,

Chiming in — I'm sorry for the delay.

A few questions: what Nest Thermostat do you have? Check this link to know what thermostat you have. Since when has this been happening? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Best,

Jenelyn
