Nest thermostat

Hi there, 

 

End of November my nest thermostat has been playing up, first it was that it could not connect to internet anymore which after trouble shooting everything recommended online, it still could not connect again. 

 

But shortly after (2 weeks later) the stat kept resetting the time and date every few days. And now I've noticed it's because it keeps losing power which is why it keeps resetting. We currently have it free standing on usb not wired to the heat link.

 

But the last 2 days it runs out of power before you can even reset the date and time and powers down.

 

We have move it to various plug sockets around the house to double check it's not the plug or sockets but I feel tomorrow the stat my not even be usable? 

 

Can anyone assist me with some advice please?

I sent this post nearly 5 weeks ago and someone said they would contact me but never did. 

Currently dealing with a freezing cold house every day and it's only going to get colder. 

I think it's been drawing power from the mains an the internal battery is dead completely.

 

Please help

I had exactly this issue yesterday, and fixed it as follows: I removed the thermostat from its stand and then plugged a USB lead from my phone charger into the USB socket on the back of the thermostat and left it charging for a couple of hours. The thermostat gave a message asking me to replace it onto its stand, but I ignored that whilst it was charging up via the phone charger. Then I put it back on its stand, did a factory reset, reconfigured the options, and the battery has been fine since then. The W5 wifi issue persists though. I suspect that the unit is using excess power trying to connect to the wifi and I will have to repeat the charging action at some point.

I think Nest internal battery on low charged, if you see a blue or black wire, connect it to C terminal on Nest, this will provide full 24 Vac to Nest, and Nest will do it's jobs.You can check volage before you connect by this way : use digital meter connect red wire to red wire of meter , blue wire to Black wire of meter, if you can read more than 24 Vac, that is it.

Thank you.l Land1. It depends how you have the thermostat installed. Me and the other person both have the type you can move around the house, they use a USB lead and a charger that plugs into any outlet, rather than being hard wired to the heatlink. I suspect the charger provided struggles with the load. The W5 WiFi chip failure may cause the thermostat to do additional work searching for a WiFi signal, which runs the battery down quicker than it can be charged.
