Nest thermostats suck

Bkrogers80
Community Member

My nest is set to cool to 74. I manually created a schedule throughout the day to hold at 74. Between the hourly manual setting of 74 the thermostat sets itself to 65 and freezes the house. I cannot get away from this and am literally ready to remove and move to different devices.  What am I missing and where does the natural setting of 65 come from?

Use your nest app and open your cooling schedule, take a screenshot of that schedule and post it here.  If you want 75 degrees Fahrenheit, set it and forget it. You do not need a schedule. Check you cooling Safety Temperature setting and your ECO temperature settings.

I cant get it to stay a set temp, it does what it wants which is 65. Safety temps are defaults. I have been steadily adding temps to the schedule to try and hold the temp steady. For example if I had 74 at noon and 5pm it would revert to 65 between those points. This is the craziest thing.

You use of the cooling schedule is incorrect. Think about it, if you set the temperature to 74 degrees on Monday at 8am and you do not want to change it any other day or time, you only need one entry and that is Monday at 8 am. The fact of the matter is you do not need a schedule. Delete all the entries and just set your thermostat to 74 degrees. Disable the Home and Away function.

Ok but why is it randomly setting itself to low temps. This is crazy as it chills the house way below what it is set too. Fact is that it doesnt save anything as it costs more to chill way below what the target (scheduled or not) temp is. I cant get it to hold any temp. I am frustrated beyond belief as both thermostats in the house are doing this.

@Bkrogers80 , I am unsure why that happens. I would disable all the features for now.  Go to your Neat App, select your thermostat, then tap settings ⚙️ in the upper right corner.  Your settings will show on the screen.
TURN OFF:

Home/Away Assist

Early On

Cool to Dry

Sunblock

Airwave

Under the Options Section

Set ECO to Heat 50 and Cool OFF, both these values are defaults

Safety Temperatures Heat 40 and Cool Off,  both are defaults

Fan Schedule OFF

Temperature Units F

Thank you. I am done. This thing reverts to 65 at anytime there is not a temperature set. It will not hold the sent temp of 74 and will cool into oblivion or 65 whichever is reached first. I simply cannot understand how we have lost/lack control of this thermostat but we have. Nests are coming out of my house unless we can get some control as this is crazy.

You have a remote temperature sensor assigned to your thermostat, Correct?

Correct, it is one room away (kitchen to great room).

If the remote temperature sensor is the controlling point, that is possibly the problem. For now,  disable the remote temperature sensor or move into the same room as the Nest Thermostat.

Done but I still dont understand the thermostat setting itself to 65. Thats the bigger issue.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for looking into this, @CoolingWizard

@Bkrogers80, I appreciate your efforts in doing all the steps shared by CoolingWizard. By any chance, do you have a Google Home app? If so, please check the Routines and remove any thermostat action shown.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

yes, we are using the Google Home app. Good suggestion regarding routines, have reviewed and removed any that includes thermostats.
Will the routines over ride the scheduled temp?

Thank you

Hi Bkrogers80,

Perfect! Yes, it might be one of the reasons why it changes the temperature randomly, as it confuses which direction it should follow. In most cases, if you have multiple smart devices included in the routines as part of the action, the thermostat also follows them.

We can give it a shot to monitor the changes and see how it goes. Also, please restart your thermostat itself to refresh.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark
