I have finished installing a 5KW Chinese diesel heater in our sailboat. It works fabulous and it is really nice to have a warm cozy space. I am wanting to connect the Nest to control the heater in conjunction with the existing T stat.
First thing I’ve found is that the Nest works on 12 volts. I’ve got a three wire system with 12 v positive, 12 v negative and heat control.
Connected to Rh, W1 and C.
Anyone else used a Nest with an RV or a boat diesel heater and have any suggestions?
Next up is connecting through a wi fi hotspot.
Thanks!

Hi Steve,
I've no advice to give but just had the very same question myself. Have you succeeded and can you offer any advice to someone wanting to follow a similar path in their boat?

You have to change out your display with an aftermarket afterburner. You need one that had analog input controls, so the two upper priced models support that.

Just following up to say I've been running Nest with a Webasto heater from the late 90s successfully for 5 months now, it required a little bit of tinkering to identify the correct wires to interact with. The primary guides I followed were

and
Hope this is of some help to anyone interested though the afterburners are a solid choice otherwise!
